Haydn's Birthday!

We've decided on an unusual way to mark Haydn's birthday this year:
Instead of our usual one-hour concert, we'll be letting you in on the rehearsal process for April's concert which will feature Haydn's String Quartet, op. 76 #5.
In case you might like to "prepare yourself" in advance, there is a wonderful coaching and analysis of this work with a fine student quartet under the auspices of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuwmxEvNeQs

We hope you'll enjoy this appetizer on the "menu" and look forward even more to the "main course" on April 28th.

Thank you.

14th Annual Beethoven's Birthday Benefit - 6:00 p.m.

22nd & Spruce Streets
Philadelphia Pennsylvania
Price: Donation - $10 - $50

This Annual Concert benefits Wintershelter, an initiative of Philadelphia's Community Outreach Partnership - http://www.communityoutreachpartnership.org/home

Each year, for the past 13 years, Liebesfreud has offered a pair of Beethoven String Quartets in celebration of Beethoven's birthday.
In year 10, our cellist, Charlie, couldn't be with us but thanks to the generosity and artistry of Hai-Ye Ni, the "show" was able to go on as scheduled.
This year, Dave is unable to be part of the celebration.
Rather than attempt to replace him (after all, how many musicians would even admit to playing viola?) we decided this would be the perfect year to program something "a little different". So we've expanded our ranks and will be presenting Beethoven's "Septet".

Don't miss this unusual, jolly and seldom performed work, unique in the annals of chamber music!
After all, you're getting 7 for the price of 4 - and it's for a very worthy cause.

Wishing you Merry, Happy and Healthy!!!

~ Liebesfreud ~

~ January 27, 2006 ~ ~  the world celebrated the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.  In Philadelphia, Liebesfreud presented the only free chamber music concert in the United States to mark this auspicious occasion.
World renowned clarinetist, Ricardo Morales, was our guest on this date and now, fifty programs later, he graciously returns, joining us in this concert's feature work - a supreme masterpiece in the chamber music literature - the Brahms Clarinet Quintet.
The program opens with Schubert's searing Quartettsatz and Mendelssohn's glowing Theme and Variations, op. 81

This performance is being held in the Dorrance H. Hamilton Rooftop Garden (indoor).

Seating is limited to 200 for this concert. Please arrive early.
